World's Leaders on Macular Disease Convene in New York on April 16 for AMD Alliance International (AMDAI) Meeting
Date:4/13/2011

NEW YORK, April 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AMD Alliance International (AMDAI) will host its annual global conference on April 16, 2011 in New York at Lighthouse International.  The AMDAI annual meeting brings together the top minds in the field of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to showcase a global commitment to improve quality and access to care for patients.

AMD is a chronic disease that affects 30 million people throughout the world - twice the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease.  It is the leading cause of vision loss in the developed world and poses a substantial financial, patient, caregiver and health care burden.

"AMD Alliance International is a global consortium of more than 70 organizational members and the only international organization dedicated exclusively to promoting awareness, treatment and research for AMD," said Narinder Sharma, CEO, AMD Alliance International.  "We are proud of the momentum that AMDAI has made in the field over the past 12 years, and look forward to continuing to work with our global members to bring knowledge, help and hope to people around the world affected by AMD."

At the conference, AMDAI will unveil findings from paper "Increasing Understanding of Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration as a Chronic Disease that Has Best Outcomes from Regular Clinical Assessments and Standardized Therapies." The final report will highlight concrete issues surrounding AMD, an overview of the current treatment landscape, and the impact of the disease globally.  The meeting program also includes presentations on current macular disease research, low vision technology, psycho-social aspects affecting patients and treatment safety.

Findings and implications of the report will be discussed via webcast on Monday, April 18 at 10am EST/3pm BST/4pm CEST.  To register for the webcast please visit http://www.videonewswire.com/event.asp?id
