"This is truly an exciting time for the Cancer Research Alliance," said Chairperson, Bridget Brennan. "By engaging all Americans in the Infinite Power of One(TM) campaign, we know we can galvanize the public to make change and celebrate the infinite power we have as a society to have a positive impact on our health. The CRA will use the funds generated from this campaign to accelerate research that is less invasive, more targeted, more personal and more powerful."
"Celebrations.com and 1-800-FLOWERS.COM(R) are proud to sponsor the Infinite Power of One(TM) campaign," said Seth Lasser, Executive Editor and General Manager, Celebrations.com. "We are proud to join forces with Americans and the Cancer Research Alliance to celebrate the infinite power that we can have on this important health issue when we collaborate our efforts as a society to take action and accelerate change."
Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US after heart disease. More than 1,437,000 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2008. This year, more than 565,000 Americans will die, more than 1,500 people a day. In the US, cancer accounts for 1 of every 4 deaths.
"Patients and families are often intrigued and inspired by our research, but often don't believe a small donation can make a difference," said Donald L. Trump, MD, FACP, President and CEO of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. "We hope that this campaign demonstrates that each dollar counts -- just as every single minute in the laboratory counts -- and that collectively, we can make a significant impact for tomorrow's cures."
