World Molecular Imaging Congress to Feature Scientific Breakthroughs in Molecular Multimodal Imaging Essential to Precision Medicine

CULVER CITY, Calif., Sept 3, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS) will hold its sixth annual congress in Savannah, GA September 18 – 21, 2013.  The World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) 2013 will feature new advancements in molecular multimodal imaging with a focus on discovery, pre-clinical and translational research, highlighting first-in-human studies that drive innovative diagnostics and targeted therapy critical to the implementation of precision medicine.

Hedvig Hricak M.D., Ph.D., Chairman, Radiology; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and one of eight esteemed Plenary Speakers at the WMIC 2013 said, "Molecular imaging and targeted therapy are essential to the successful implementation of precision medicine. The WMIC is a unique international forum for discussing all aspects of molecular imaging research, from an idea to preclinical studies to first-in-human imaging trials. The WMIS is taking the lead in the global discussions of MI and its clinical applications and it is a pleasure and honor to take part in the 2013 WMIS annual meeting."

This year's program will consist of 168 oral presentations and 35 spotlight presentations emphasizing five categories: Chemistry & Imaging Probes, First-in-Human & Clinical Studies, Preclinical Cell & Tissue Level Studies, Preclinical in vivo Studies, Technology & Software development, with over 60 top Industry Exhibitors. "Our program will set the framework for innovation and discovery with thought-provoking research on how MRI, ultrasound, PET, CT, SPECT, optical and many other modalities are providing major new insights and direction on how to effectively treat and monitor life-threatening neurological, cardiovascular, inflammatory, metabolic, oncological, and infectious diseases," said Zaver Bhujwalla, Ph.D., WMIS President, and Professor, Radiology & Radiological Science, Oncology; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The WMIS is dedicated to developing and promoting translational research through multimodal molecular imaging. The education and abstract-driven WMIC annual meeting is held in conjunction with European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI) and Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging (FASMI). WMIC is the only meeting that provides a unique platform for scientists and clinicians with very diverse backgrounds to interact, present, and follow cutting-edge advances in molecular imaging.  Industry exhibits at the congress include the latest advances in preclinical and clinical imaging applications creating a complete molecular imaging educational technology showcase.
