Women Golfers Present $750,000 To Cancer Charities
Date:4/14/2015

PALM DESERT, Calif., April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Women golfers at BIGHORN banded together eight years ago after their friend, Selby Dunham, survived breast cancer. Their group, BIGHORN Behind A Miracle or affectionately known as BAM, presented $750,000 last week to local cancer charities after a five-month fundraising season. Inspired to save the lives cancer patients in Coachella Valley in Riverside County, BAM has raised $5.25 million in eight years for cancer patient support services, breast cancer diagnostic technologies and educational scholarships.

"Our incredible team of golfers and volunteers have been so supportive, enabling BAM to grow every year! BAM has gifted organizations striving to help patients to obtain newly advanced equipment and technologies, while also covering the costs of treatments and everyday living expenses for those patients unable to do so on their own," said BIGHORN BAM Founder Selby Dunham and 10 year breast cancer survivor.

Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center in Rancho Mirage received $600,000 to support various enhanced technologies including a 3D Breast CT Scanner, four GE Logic s9 Ultrasound machines, Breast MRI Analysis Software and a Breast MRI Coil Invivo 16; while $150,000 was gifted to The Pendleton Foundation — a non-profit organization helping patients with basic living expenses when they cannot work. Funds also support transportation services to Eisenhower patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy who would normally rely on public transportation, inspiring over 7,500 round-trip rides and who can now get better faster!

This year marks BIGHORN BAM's eighth year as one of the largest single private fundraisers benefiting Eisenhower Medical Center, a top 100 hospital in America.

"BIGHORN BAM has transformed breast care at Eisenhower with funding to maintain the latest diagnostic capabilities," says Michael Landes, President, Eisenhower Medical Center Foundation. "25,000 patients treated here every year benefit from technology provided by BAM, one of the most generous series of private fundraising events in Eisenhower history."
