Simplant, a long-acting reversible contraceptive (or LARC), is a highly effective subdermal implant composed of two thin, flexible, silicone rods, each containing 75 mg levonorgestrel (a synthetic form of the hormone progestin). These are inserted under the skin of a woman's arm by a trained health care provider. Simplant provides contraception for four years with an immediate return to fertility upon discontinuation.  Simplant has been available since 1994 and has been used by over 8 million women.

"With more than 230 million women globally who have an unmet need for modern contraception, we at WomanCare Global are passionate about finding solutions where women can choose family planning products that meet their individual needs," said Saundra Pelletier , CEO of WomanCare Global. "With the launch of Simplant in Chile, medical providers in Chile can now offer a greater variety of suitable options to women who want to delay or limit childbirth."

The WomanCare Global Simplant Training Meeting was held at the School of Midwifery in Santiago with the collaboration of APROFA which is an International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) affiliate and the distributor of Simplant in Chile.  The meeting was chaired by internationally renowned Horacio B. Croxatto
