WellPoint Subsidiary Wins Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contract Valued at $86.7 Million
Date:9/21/2010

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that its subsidiary, National Government Services, Inc., was selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue administering the Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contract (DME MAC) for Jurisdiction B, which includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

National Government Services was originally awarded the Jurisdiction B DME MAC contract in January 2006. This award, like the original award, consists of a base year and four one-year options. As required by section 911 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA), CMS must recompete its DME MAC contracts every five years.

National Government Services, one of the nation's largest Medicare contractors, will continue to perform key Medicare administrative functions for suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) as this new contract becomes effective in December 2010.

"This contract represents CMS' continued confidence in our ability to deliver excellent service and value to our federal government partners," said Sandy Miller, senior vice president of WellPoint's Federal Government Solutions business. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to serve CMS and the nearly 23,000 DME suppliers in Jurisdiction B."
