WHCA Selects COMS Interactive as Affinity Partner
Date:12/13/2011

TUMWATER, Wash., Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington Health Care Association (WHCA) has named COMS Interactive, LLC (COMS or Clinical Outcomes Management System) as an Affinity Partner.  This partnership is in alignment with WHCA's stated objective, which is "to encourage and promote principles and programs that will provide long-term health care residents with the highest quality medical, nursing and personal care, with the goal of maximizing their individual independence and potential."  The agreement between WHCA and COMS is a three year partnership focused specifically on improving clinical and financial outcomes.

The COMS flagship Disease Management Software, Daylight IQ™, is used in progressive nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home care organizations nationwide.  The Software as a Service (SaaS) product features a series of integrated, disease-based library of clinical protocols that significantly empower the entire care team including physicians, therapists, nurses, and nurse aides, and facilitates enhanced communication between all parties.  The initial Daylight IQ™ training can be completed in less than two hours, immediately improving clinical results and providing positive tangible financial outcomes.

"Given recent and pending Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement reductions, it is absolutely critical for our member organizations to identify ways in which unnecessary re-hospitalizations can be reduced or even eliminated," noted Rich Miller, WHCA President and Chief Executive Officer.  "The bedside technology that Daylight IQ™ provides has proven to reduce resident return to hospitals while simultaneously enhancing the overall quality of care our clinical team can offer and improving financial outcomes."

Deployment of Daylight IQ™ empowers clinical teams with information and technology at the point of care.  This results in the caregiver's ability to provide better care, directly increasing an organization's census and the accompanying enhanced revenue opportunities.  A key component of the Daylight IQ™ product suite is the reduction in unnecessary hospital readmissions by as much as 50%, a related decrease in premature mortality rates, and an increase in successful discharges.

"Once again WHCA is leading the long-term care market in identifying and implementing products and services that will enable their members to provide the best possible care to their residents," noted Edward J. Tromczynski, Chief Executive Officer, COMS Interactive.  "We applaud their progressive thought leadership and look forward to working with the WHCA executive team and the individual association members in the Pacific Northwest."

Industry data shows that the average nursing home, home care or assisted living resident has a complicated disease profile, with one primary disease and up to eight secondary diseases or afflictions.  Over 70% of re-hospitalizations are due to the progression of secondary or new diseases.  By providing early detection of changes in condition, Daylight IQ™ highlights potential problems and offers caregivers the opportunity to respond, preventing further progression of the illness or affliction.
