WBR Insights Study Finds Aromatherapy Gaining Traction for Clinical Patient Care
Date:5/23/2019

Over 68% of healthcare organizations have adopted a clinical aromatherapy program according to a new study announced by WBR Insights (the custom research division of Worldwide Business Research, the global leader in B2B conference events). The study also found that 86% of medical organizations that currently offer clinical aromatherapy report positive (44%) or highly positive (22%) patient responses.

Produced in conjunction with WBR’s NGPX event series and in partnership with Beekley Medical, the study identifies and measures developing trends in this area through both data analysis and interviews with over 100 medical professionals, many of whom are currently using or committed to adopting aromatherapy in a clinical setting. The findings suggest the trend is emerging at the team level—beginning with practitioners and growing in popularity across departments and organizations.

Other key findings from the report include:

  • 73% of respondents believe aromatherapy helps or can improve the patient experience
  • 76% believe aromatherapy can be a good solution as a non-pharmaceutical alternative for pain management
  • 69% consider aromatherapy a cost-effective alternative to more expensive solutions
  • Most respondents are using, will use, or would consider using aromatherapy to help promote sleep (67%), sooth queasiness (57%), and help reduce anxiety (56%).

“Medical professionals are embracing holistic treatment methods due to their relatively low barrier of entry and success, particularly for treating common issues that negatively impact a patient’s overall care experience,” said Chris Rand, digital content and research manager with WBR Insights. “We were blown away by the overwhelmingly positive professional feedback about aromatherapy—not to mention the ease and excitement with which practitioners have adopted the practice from department to department.”
