Virtual Event Dedicated to Cutting-Edge Trends in Implantable Medical Devices Offers Sessions on Orthopedic and Cardio Applications

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MD+DI (Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry), MPMN (Medical Product Manufacturing News), and OrthoTec, UBM Canon's Medical Device Media Group leading brands, today announced session topics for the upcoming virtual event, Design Trends: Technological Advances in Implantable Devices on January 26, 2011, from 11am until 5pm Eastern time. This combined virtual conference and tradeshow offers attendees the opportunity to learn from and interact directly with industry experts and technology providers in the implantable medical device industry. This topic-specific, focused environment is available directly from virtually anywhere an attendee has computer online access.

The virtual conference will kick-off with a keynote address by Venkat Rajan, Industry Manager at Frost & Sullivan for Medical Devices. Drawing on his expertise in cardiovascular, orthopedics, advanced wound care, oncology, surgery settings, robotics/navigation, oncology, long-term patient care, wellness, and healthcare business models, as well as custom analysis of targeted dynamic medical device market sectors, Rajan will focus on unmet needs in the marketplace and various growth opportunities for manufacturers of medical implants. Forecast for the future of implant design and development will also be discussed.

Multiple speaker and chat sessions follow the keynote address. In the first session, The Implant Surface and Beyond, speakers Mark Amrich, Vice President of Etched Products at Tecomet and Ryan Siskey, Manager of Biomechanics at Exponent will discuss critical components for the most effective performance when working with implant surfaces.

Other sessions include: The Ultimate Power Struggle, Innovation in Implantable Device Design, and Wireless Communication in Home Healthcare. The final session, Biomaterials That Won't Skip a Beat, includes multiple presentations by biomaterials experts including Jeffrey Koslosky, Director of Technology and Product Development at Secant Medical. This presentation will focus on the various methods used to create biomedical textiles and the range of materials used to design in the unique physical and mechanical properties leveraged in medical devices.
