VirtuOx and Watermark Medical Announce Strategic Alliance to Expand Sleep Apnea Home Sleep Testing Solutions
Date:8/17/2010

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- VirtuOx, Inc., a medical technology services company and industry leader in delivering home sleep testing solutions, today announced an agreement with Watermark Medical, a privately-held, medical products and services company currently servicing the sleep-disordered breathing market, to utilize the Watermark ARES™ device in its portfolio, the VirtuOx Home Sleep Test (HoST™) solutions.

VirtuOx's HoST™ home sleep testing platforms can diagnose patients with the two most common forms of Sleep Apnea - Central and Obstructive - in the comfort and privacy of their home. With VirtuOx solutions, which now include Watermark ARES, a patient never has to leave home to be diagnosed with sleep apnea. VirtuOx delivers the device to the patient's home, supplies detailed instructions and 24-hour telephone support and provides an accurate diagnosis using its network of Board Certified Sleep Physicians.

"We are very excited about enhancing our nationwide HoST™ (Home Sleep Testing) delivery platform with the Watermark Medical Apnea Risk Evaluation System (ARES™)," said Felix Krupczynski, COO of VirtuOx.  "After reviewing all of the HoST products available today, VirtuOx chose Watermark Medical's sleep platform because it combines the scalability and flexibility of cloud computing with a user-friendly web interface that enables higher accuracy and accessibility for healthcare providers and patients. Clinically and operationally, it is an outstanding device that enables us to enhance our national service by adding Level II clinical testing to our market-leading home sleep testing program, as well as provide patients with an easy to use, in-home diagnostic option."

Watermark ARES (Apnea Risk Evaluation System) is the first FDA-cleared, CMS approved, in-home, wire-free, ambulatory sleep test device that provides physicians with a highly accurate, lower-cost tool to diagnose patients who may be suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The ARES™ integrates physiological data acquired in-home with clinical history and anthropomorphic data to determine the presence and severity of OSA.

"With this strategic alliance, Watermark and VirtuOx are making in-home testing and diagnosis even more accessible to the millions of Americans suffering from sleep apnea," said Charlie Alvarez, Co-Founder and President of Watermark Medical. "The ARES device can save patients significant time and money, but can also save lives. Since sleep apnea is linked to chronic health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension, accurate and timely diagnosis is critical. With VirtuOx's HoST platform, now with Watermark ARES, patients can be diagnosed and treated quickly, resulting in a decrease in long-term health problems – even death. A partnership between Watermark Medical and VirtuOx signifies that we are one step closer to making at-home medical diagnosis part of our overall healthcare system."

The VirtuOx HoST solution, now enhanced with the Watermark ARES device, enables patients throughout the country to be easily and cost-effectively diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
