Date:5/2/2013

INDIANAPOLIS, May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vertellus Specialties Inc. announces that its facility in Antwerp, Belgium has completed capital and other upgrades for the manufacture of Niacin (nicotinic acid) for pharmaceutical use.

The plant has been producing Niacin USP and Niacinamide for nearly 30 years and has reliably supplied the ingredient for human food applications as well as agricultural needs. Vertellus completed projects over the last year to upgrade the facility to meet stringent guidelines necessary to be fully compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) in manufacture of an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and has been inspected and deemed acceptable by the US Federal Drug Administration.

"We are very excited to broaden our market capabilities to include pharmaceutical use for Niacin," says Bentley Park , President of Vertellus Agriculture & Nutrition Specialties LLC. "Among other applications, Niacin increasingly is used as a critical ingredient in drugs that help improve cardiovascular health by increasing good cholesterol levels. We can now provide another source and more options for pharmaceutical companies making those life-saving drugs."

Major changes at the plant include upgrades and validation of all critical equipment, manufacturing processes, analytical methodology and data collection systems.
