UrgentRx® Launches Innovative Line of Portable Life-Saving Medications Across Iowa

DENVER, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Life-saving Colorado start-up UrgentRx today announced the company's new line of fast-acting, powdered medications in convenient credit card-sized packets are available now at Dahl's pharmacies, Hy-Vee grocery stores, and convenience stores throughout Iowa. UrgentRx® first made its powdered medications available across Colorado in February.

The company's initial product line consists of UrgentRx Aspirin to Go, UrgentRx Headache Relief to Go, and UrgentRx Ache & Pain Relief to Go. UrgentRx over the counter (OTC) medications are formulated in a pleasant tasting powder form that doesn't require liquid and works nearly 2.5 times faster than traditional pills or tablets. Additionally, the unique credit card-sized packets, designed to easily fit in a wallet or purse credit card slot, are significantly more portable and readily available in times of medical emergencies.

"Headaches, everyday aches and pains, and even major medical emergencies like heart attacks rarely happen when you're standing in a pharmacy or near your medicine cabinet, they happen when you're out and about living life. That's why we've made it easy for people to have – and take – life-saving medication anytime, anywhere," said Jordan Eisenberg, UrgentRx founder and CEO. "We've been flooded with positive feedback from Colorado consumers. After only a week on shelves, we confirmed that a heart attack victim took UrgentRx Aspirin to Go and survived.  We're eager to bring this life-saving product to as many Americans as possible, with Iowans being a top priority."

UrgentRx Chief Operating Officer Brian Clark is originally from West Des Moines and is a graduate of Valley High School.  According to Clark, research has proven heart attack victims are far more likely to survive if they have fast and easy access to aspirin in the event of a heart attack.

"Studies show that a heart attack victim is 23 percent more likely to survive by taking aspirin immediately at the first sign of symptoms," he said. "I have a personal interest in making the UrgentRx line of life-saving medications available across Iowa, and I look forward to working more closely with pharmacists, grocers and other retailers to make this product easily available to every consumer in my home state."

Aspirin's primary benefit during a heart attack is that it makes blood platelets less prone to clotting. Taking aspirin immediately at the onset of heart attack symptoms helps prevent the formation of additional blood clots which block blood flow through clogged arteries. Thus, further heart muscle damage may be prevented or delayed by taking aspirin, buying a heart attack victim critical time to get to a hospital for treatment by a doctor. Additionally, research shows that taking aspirin in powdered form is absorbed into the bloodstream approximately 2.5 times faster than swallowing an aspirin pill whole.  This is critical, as every second counts in the event of a heart attack.

"Taking aspirin at the first sign of a heart attack can mean the difference between life and death," said Dr. Barry Molk, cardiologist and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. "Starting today, UrgentRx makes it a little easier for Iowans across the state to protect themselves, their friends and their loved ones from dying of a heart attack."
