University of North Carolina Hospitals Selects Carefx Business Intelligence Dashboards To Drive Performance Improvement
Date:2/17/2011

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefx Corp., a leading provider of interoperable workflow solutions, announced today that the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals has chosen Fusionfx Physician Insight Plus™, one of many performance improvement dashboards offered by Carefx and developed in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic. The performance improvement dashboards are designed to access, track, analyze and compare performance on clinical and operational outcomes, safety and utilization.

"It was important for us to find a solution that would put comprehensive, easy-to-use analytic information into the hands of clinicians, empowering them to not only compare performance but identify opportunities for continuous performance improvement," said Glen F. Spivak, MBA, Vice President, Operational Efficiency, UNC Hospitals. "Physician Insight Plus will allow our clinicians to manage and understand their progress and potential opportunities to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and timeliness of care delivery and to increase patient satisfaction and efficiency of inpatient documentation."

As a member of University HealthSystem Consortium, UNC can use Physician Insight Plus to compare their physician performance to similar groups or other Consortium members. The transparency of the comparative data enables UNC to identify best-practice groups and collaborate with other Consortium members.

Physician Insight Plus highlights relationships between operational and quality performance in a single view, and users can select from multiple cohorts or product lines to benchmark or compare performance. Physicians can drill down to detailed comparisons and case-level data to measure their performance on Length of Stay (LOS); Hospital Cost; Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) indicators; and Readmission Rate and Mortality. The dashboard also provides Chief Medical Officers the ability to identify variations in physician performance in order to improve quality and utilization, satisfying the physician oversight mandates of the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE).

"Building on the BI innovations pioneered at the Cleveland Clinic, Carefx is pleased to provide UNC clinicians with tools to monitor, evaluate and compare clinical performance –the first step in improving patient care delivery," said Andrew Hurd, Chairman and CEO of Carefx.

Spivak will be speaking during an invitation-only breakfast briefing at the 2011 HIMSS Annual Conference.  Spivak, along with Andrew Hurd from Carefx; Tom Wadsworth, Principal, Business Intelligence, Carefx; and Michael C. Lindberg, M.D., FACP, Chairman, Department of Medicine, Hartford Hospital will discuss how to plan for, select, implement, and monitor business intelligence (BI) systems for meaningful use, accountable care and other strategic initiatives.
