UBM Live to Roll Out Pharma Contract Services & Outsourcing Brand in the US in 2012
Date:10/25/2011

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CPhI Worldwide -- Leading events organiser UBM Live, a division of UBM Plc (LSE: UBM), today announced the introduction of a new event, ICSE USA, to be held from May 22-23, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre in Philadelphia. ICSE USA extends an established global line-up of International Contract Services Expo (ICSE) events which are held annually and will focus on the pharmaceutical contract services and outsourcing sectors in the US market.

The introduction of ICSE USA in 2012 comes as a direct response to feedback from 60.2% of ICSE Europe 2010 visitors, who indicated that the North America region is their strongest target for the development of business over the next three years. The exhibitor profile will include companies specialising in custom manufacturing, biotechnology, clinical trials from phase I to IV, IT services, contract research, drug discovery, laboratory services, logistics services, marketing services and R&D. ICSE USA will compliment these offerings with educational sessions and networking opportunities targeted around both attendee and exhibitor needs.

In 2010 the global value of outsourced pharmaceutical trials run through Contract Research Organisations amounted to an estimated $19bn. According to the US National Institutes of Health about 50% of all clinical trials are currently done in the USA and there are projections for this to continue to grow 9-11% annually. The costs of running clinical trials in the US are about twice as high as in countries like China, India and Russia which will raise the needs for outsourcing from the United States. Currently about 60% of this work is outsourced, and over time this is expected to experience compounded annual growth of 12% to $33bn in 2015(1).

ICSE USA will run simultaneously with Pharmapack North America, another new event hosted by UBM and focusing on drug devices, delivery systems and packaging solutions, as well as East Pack which offers the premier industry resource for East Coast packaging and manufacturing sectors. The events will also be collocated with Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East which is the longest running medical design and manufacturing event in the world. The combined events will capitalise on cross over traffic and the synergies between the shows with the aim of strengthening existing relationships while creating additional business opportunities for attendees and exhibitors alike.

"As US companies' race against the expiration of blockbuster drugs, there has been a huge push towards the development of biosimilars and biologics to fill the needs of the market. Coupled with the introduction of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Acts, which highlight the need to make quality pharmaceuticals more accessible to all citizens, all of these factors have created a massive drive for R&D in the US market. Running R&D and clinical trials in the US is expensive and directly increases the demand for comprehensive contract and outsourcing resources in this market," said Haf Cennydd, Global Brand Director of ICSE. She went on to note, "Despite tough market conditions, the US remains the largest pharmaceutical market in the world, accounting for 39% of the total $795bn generated by Pharma annually. It is expected to continue to grow at an average rate of 5% per year, leading to a market value of $399bn in 2015(1)."

The UBM Live annual schedule of ICSE events also includes India (30 November – 2 December, Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, India, 2011), Japan (21-23, March, Big Sight Tokyo Exhibition Center, Japan, 2012), China (26-28, June, SNIEC, Shanghai, China, 2012), South America (21-23, August, Transamerica Expo Centre, Sao Paulo, Brazil 2012) and Worldwide (9-11 October, 2012 at the Feria de Madrid, Spain).
