Date:3/25/2008

Leading CNS experts collaborate with UBC to provide best science available

BETHESDA, Md., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- To offer clients cutting-edge thinking in study methodology for CNS clinical trials, United BioSource Corporation (UBC) announces the formation of a European Advisory Board for Data Quality. This Advisory Board was established to support UBC in its ongoing efforts to improve data quality and outcomes in CNS trials that rely on subjective measurements as pivotal endpoints, such as those in psychiatry, neurology and pain. Recommendations of this Board will be integrated into UBC's customized training and validated assessment programs targeting investigators and study personnel.

Specifically, the European Advisory Board will collaborate with UBC in researching the latest methodologies in rater-training, inter-rater reliability assessments and clinician-rated scales, with a focus on enhancing scoring ability, interviewing competency and diagnostic skills for both investigators and other clinicians supporting clinical trials.

The Advisory Board will be led by Oto Markovic, MD, Regional Manager of UBC's European Regional Headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic. Joining Dr. Markovic on the Board will be six leading experts in the fields of CNS, psychiatry and neurology:

-- W. Wolfgang Fleischhacker, MD, is Vice Chair and Professor in the

Department of Psychiatry at Innsbruck University Clinics in Austria,

where he also serves as head of the Department of Biological Psychiatry.

He is a certified psychotherapist with a specialty in behavioral

therapy.

-- Heinz C.R. Grunze, MD, is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, School of

Neurology, Neurobiology and Psychiatry, University of Newcastle upon

Tyne. Prof. Grunze serves as an editorial reviewer on many journals

and has served as vice president of the International Society of

Bipolar Disorder (ISBD).

-- Cyril Hoschl, MD, DSc., FRCPsych., is Professor of Psychiatry and

department chairman at the Charles University in Prague and Director at

the Prague Psychiatric Centre. Since 2004, he has also served as a

Professor of Psychiatry at the University of P.J. Safarik in Kosice,

Slovak Republic. Dr. Hoschl is the president of the Association of

European Psychiatrists and the vice-president of the Vienna School of

Clinical Research.

-- Norman Sartorius, MD, PhD, FRCPsych., holds professorial appointments

at the Universities of Geneva, Prague and Zagreb, as well as at several

other universities in Europe, the USA and China. He has also served as

the former president of both the World Psychiatric Association and the

European Association of Psychiatrists. Dr. Sartorius has published

more than 300 articles in scientific journals, co-authored several

books and edited numerous others.

Disorders.

According to Professor Montgomery, "The issue of ratings quality and clinical outcomes is critical to the successful development of new CNS drugs. Focusing on improving these outcomes will hopefully lead to the availability of newer and better treatments for patients."

"This world-class group of researchers will guide our efforts to design and execute the most effective rater training and data quality programs based on proven methods and the latest scientific techniques, with a goal of enhancing outcomes in CNS clinical trials," adds Dr. Marcovic.
