Traitement du cancer primaire du foie : l'étude SARAH désormais accessible aux patients concernés sur l'ensemble du territoire français

Lancée par l'Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris(AP-HP) en décembre 2011, l'étude multicentrique SARAH[1] a pour objectif de comparer la radioembolisation, avec des microsphères de résine chargées d'yttrium-90,au traitement de référence par chimiothérapie systémique (sorafenib). Cet essai de Phase III prospectif, contrôlé et randomisé doit inclure, en France, 400 patients atteints d'un cancer du foie avancé (carcinome hépatocellulaire - CHC).

A cette date, plus de 150 patients en bénéficient déjà.

Le Sorafenib, auquel la radioembolisation est comparée, est aujourd'hui le traitement de référence des CHC avancés. Toutefois, malgré une augmentation de la médiane du délai de survie globale (de 8 à 11 mois dans l'essai SHARP pour le sorafenib par rapport au traitement placebo), on relève par ailleurs une toxicité élevée (80 % d'effets indésirables dans SHARP). L'étude SARAH est basée sur l'hypothèse que la radioembolisation, avec des microsphères de résine chargées d'yttrium-90 (microsphères SIR-Spheres®, Sirtex Medical Limited - Aus
