Thesan Pharmaceuticals gibt Serie-A-Finanzierung unter gemeinsamer Führung von Novo Ventures und Novartis Venture Funds bekannt

SAN DIEGO, 31. Oktober 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thesan Pharmaceuticals gab den Abschluss einer Serie-A-Finanzierung in Höhe von 16 Millionen $ bekannt, welche von Novo Ventures und Novartis Venture Funds gemeinsam geführt wird.  Das Unternehmen wird sich auf die Entwicklung von neuartigen Ansätzen für die Behandlung von dermatologischen Erkrankungen konzentrieren. Der führende Medikamentenkandidat des Unternehmens ist eine neue, topisch angewandte, chemische Substanz, die im Jahr 2013 in das klinische Stadium gebracht werden soll.

„Die Medikamentenentwicklung im dermatologischen Bereich sah für viele Jahre so aus, dass alte Medikamente mit einer neuen Rezeptur, die für eine ansprechende Form wie Schaum, Gel oder Lotion sorgte, neu zusammengesetzt wurde", erklärte Gordon Foulkes, der geschäftsführende Vorstand und CEO von Thesan. „Es ist Thesans Ziel, neue chemische Substanzen mit neuartigen Wirkmechanismen zu entwickeln, um die Behandlung von Patienten mit zahlreichen verschiedenen dermatologischen Erkrankungen zu verbessern." 

Die ersten Produkte des Unternehmens wurden von der University of California, Irvine (UCI) lizensiert. Die Produkte wurden im Labor von Professor Daniele Piomelli entwickelt, der den Lehrstuhl Louise Turner Arnold Chair of Neurosciences an der UCI inne hat und Leiter des Bereichs Arzneimittelforschung und -entwicklung am Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), Genua (Italien) ist.
