Thesan Pharmaceuticals annuncia un finanziamento di serie A co-gestito da Novo Ventures e Novartis Venture Funds

SAN DIEGO, 31 ottobre 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thesan Pharmaceuticals annuncia la chiusura di un finanziamento di serie A di 16 milioni di dollari, co-gestito da Novo Ventures e Novartis Venture Funds.  L'azienda si dedicherà allo sviluppo di nuovi approcci terapeutici nel trattamento dei disordini dermatologici.  Il candidato farmaco principale è una nuova sostanza chimica per uso topico, e sarà commercializzato nel sistema medico-sanitario nel 2013.

"Per molti anni il settore della ricerca dermatologica, invece di dedicarsi allo sviluppo di nuove soluzioni terapeutiche, ha riproposto vecchi farmaci, riformulati in prodotti esteticamente più accattivanti, come schiume, gel o lozioni," ha affermato Gordon Foulkes, Executive Chairman e CEO di Thesan. "La 'mission' di Thesan consiste nello sviluppo di nuove sostanze chimiche con nuovi meccanismi di azione, che consentano di migliorare la terapia di molte malattie dermatologiche." 

L'Università della California (UCI), Irvine, ha concesso in licenza i diritti dei farmaci. I prodotti sono stati sviluppati nel laboratorio del Professor Daniele Piomelli, che è titolare della cattedra Louise Turner Arnold in Neuroscienze presso l'UCI e direttore del dipartimento di Scoperta e Sviluppo di Farmaci presso l'Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) di Genova, Italia.
