The Spine Center recognized by Advocate Health Care for exceptional patient care

The Spine Center’s Dr. Avi J. Bernstein recently was recognized with Advocate Health Care’s Physician Recognition Award, “Our Patients Love Our Doctors.” Advocate Health Care, a faith-based not-for-profit, is the largest health system in Illinois.

This is the second time Dr. Bernstein has won the award, which highlights physicians who are truly committed to Advocate’s mission.

The board-certified surgeon was fellowship trained in the subspecialty of orthopedic surgery and is the co-founder of The Spine Center, a private practice that is committed to providing excellence in diagnosis and treatment of spinal injuries and conditions for individuals of any age, while offering care that is innovative, efficient and professional.

Sandra Kaszubowski, Physician Relations Manager at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, is extremely proud of the Spine Center team and the reviews she’s received of their commitment to excellence and professional care.

“As a member of the Physician Relations Team, I feel privileged to work with such outstanding physicians and am honored when I read such wonderful comments about them on the patient surveys,” Kaszubowski said.

Dr. Bernstein, along with The Spine Center colleagues Dr. David L. Spencer and Dr. Christopher J. Bergin have developed patents to assist in the stabilization of the spine. Dr. Spencer, who won the “Our Patients Love Our Doctors” award in 2015 and is a co-founder of The Spine Center, specializes in spinal surgery and has spent his career advancing the field and improving patients’ access to progressive treatments. Dr. Bergin, who has been practicing since 1999 and specializes in complex spinal treatment, also has been recognized with the award.

In addition to the doctors’ specialties, the spine surgeons, located near the Chicago area, also help with sciatic pain, neck and back problems and degenerative disc disease, among other medical diagnoses.

One patient, Miles G., who suffered neck pain following a vehicle accident, described a recent positive office visit to the Spine Center.

“He sent me for an MRI, surgery was scheduled 10 days later, up and walking pain free the same day, went home the next day,” he said. “No pain meds needed six hours post-op. It’s been five days now and no pain and the problem is resolved.”

It’s feedback like this and other positive survey results that confirms the exceptional medical care offered at The Spine Center, said Alex Nava, the practice’s manager.

“We’re incredibly happy to have a great reputation with our patients,” Nava said. “The results of the survey revealed that our mission is being met and patients who are suffering from a variety of conditions and diseases are quickly finding their way back to a pain-free lifestyle. We have our commendable doctors to thank for this and we congratulate Dr. Bernstein for this well-deserved recognition.”

The Spine Center, a private practice located in Park Ridge, Ill., is dedicated to the continuous advancement of healthcare. The physicians there serve as innovators in technology and actively participate in national and international research studies. The fellowship-trained doctors offer more than 50 years of experience treating spinal conditions, including sciatic pain, neck and back problems and degenerative disc disease.
