OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has partnered with Watertree Health, a leading provider of FREE Prescription Discount Cards, to help fight hunger and to build healthier communities.
The two organizations found synergy in their missions: filling the emptiness caused by hunger and helping people afford vital medicines.
Through this program, Watertree Health makes a donation to the organization for every prescription discounted using the FREE Regional Food Bank Prescription Discount Card, given to everyone serviced by the Regional Food Bank and available for download at WatertreeHealthCard.com/FBROK. The card provides significant discounts on both brand named and generic prescriptions and is accepted at Homeland Drug Stores, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, CVS plus many additional national, regional and independent pharmacies.
According to the Center for American Progress, "Food insecurity and hunger....harm the U.S. economy, hinder educational advancement, and increase health care spending."
Oklahoma has consistently ranked among the top ten states with the highest number of people who go hungry and who are uninsured. "This partnership makes perfect sense when you think about what we can help accomplish together," says Regional Food Bank Executive Director Rodney W. Bivens.
"People who are struggling economically are often forced to make difficult decisions. Sometimes it's health related and at other times it's about feeding their families. That should never be the case," says Watertree Health CEO & founder, Matt Herfield.
Across the country, Watertree Health has implemented similar programs with other food banks.
