The Behavioral Pain Management Track Returns to PAINWeek 2019

At the Tuesday, September 3 full-day Behavioral Pain Management Track at PAINWeek in Las Vegas, practitioners can learn how to take better care of their patients, and themselves. Heather Poupore-King, PhD, copresenter of Lip Service: Using Words as the Foundation for Effective Pain Management along with Jamie Clapp, PT, DPT, OCS, commented, “In this course we will explore the art and science of pain neuroscience education and introduce its communication strategies to learners, to increase patient buy in/engagement, decrease resistance, and improve functional outcomes. Learn to harness the power of your words!"

Dr. King and Corinne E. Cooley, DPT, OCS, will copresent Follow the Yellow Brick Road: Reducing Clinician Burnout. Dr. King asks, “Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or even ineffective? Well you are not alone, and these can be signs/symptoms of provider burnout. At this interactive presentation you’ll learn empirically validated self-care strategies. This talk is geared toward anyone who wants to learn more about preventing professional burnout! What you learn in Vegas does not need to stay in Vegas."

Additional courses and presenters in the Behavioral Pain Management track: Moving Beyond the Obvious: The Pivotal Role of Psychology in Pain Management, Ravi Prasad, MD; Icebergs, Oceans, and the Experience of Pain, Becky Curtis, PCC, and Mel Pohl, MD; The Death of Caesar: Psychological Stages of Grief and Chronic Pain, David Cosio, PhD, ABPP, who will also present Pain Catastrophizing: Making a Mountain Out of a Mole Hill.

PAINWeek, the largest US pain conference for frontline practitioners, convenes its 13th annual meeting on September 3-7 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The 5-day conference presents a diverse curriculum into the 5-day agenda that will encompass over 120 hours of content across multiple course concentrations: acute, integrative, and interventional pain management; chronic pain syndromes; medical/legal issues; neurology; palliative care; and pharmacotherapy, along with master classes, satellite events, and over 30 Special Interest Sessions. Full-day programs will be presented by the American Headache Society, the International Pelvic Pain Society, and the International Myopain Society. The expansive curriculum is geared toward physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, hospitalists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in pain management.
