Texas Institute for Surgery Selects InDemand Interpreting to Improve Language Interpreting Services
Date:10/31/2012

SEATTLE and DALLAS, Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Institute for Surgery (TIS) at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas  has selected InDemand Interpreting (InDemand), the fastest growing interpreting company in the nation, to provide video remote interpreting services to its Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and hard-of-hearing (ASL) patients . This advanced technology abates communication barriers by providing instant access to an interpreter.

"Dallas is the sixth largest Spanish-speaking metropolis in the country," said Adriane Wilson, vice president of business development for Texas Institute for Surgery. She added, "With such a large LEP population, it is critical for us to provide our patients with easy access to English interpretation. InDemand's video remote interpreting (VRI) technology allows us to access a certified medical interpreter within seconds to ensure that communication barriers are removed and patient-provider communication is understood."

TIS is the first healthcare organization in the state of Texas to adopt InDemand's VRI solution that connects patients to video interpreters 24/7 through a secure network.  Its software facilitates immediate communication and quality care which results in quicker clinical management decisions and fewer delays.

InDemand's VRI convenient solution helps healthcare organizations meet Joint Commission standards which changed last year to require hospitals to provide interpreters and translation services. Joint Commission now evaluates compliance with these new standards, and healthcare organizations that fail to comply may risk losing accreditation.

"TIS' adoption of InDemand's VRI technology manifests their commitment to continually strive to achieve equal care and the best level of care for all patients," said Daniel Pirestani, chief executive officer of InDemand Interpreting. "We will continue to develop innovative healthcare technology to accelerate the health and wellbeing of LEP patients and to help healthcare organizations reduce costs and risks, improve efficiencies and ensure compliance."

Over ten years ago, the Office of Minority Health U.S. Department of Health and Human Services concluded that language barriers commonly lead to fewer physician visits, missed appointments, repeat emergency room visits and the reduced use of preventive services among LEP patients; all of which impact the cost and quality of care. Today, video remote interpreting services help remove these costly healthcare challenges. It promotes safer and higher quality patient care that drives a better patient-provider engagement and improves cultural competency.
