The 2013 Fall Webinar Series, comprised of five live monthly events, will be punctuated by a special upcoming webinar entitled, Healthcare Reform's Impact on the Laboratory, presented on Wednesday, October 23 at 12 p.m. CDT by Rick Panning, MBA, MLS(ASCP), Vice President, Business Development, Shared Clinical Services, Fairview Health Services Minneapolis, MN.  The webinar will guide participants through specific and potential reimbursement implications for laboratory providers, suppliers and patients operating within an accountable care environment. The ongoing Webinar Series, which is hosted by Sysmex in the fall and spring, features top experts discussing current clinical issues and opportunities related to advanced technology and lab efficiency.

A Sysmex America-sponsored scientific symposium November 14 – 15, Shaping the Future of Hematology, will feature a keynote presentation, The Value of Laboratory Professionals and their Services, by Elissa Passiment, EdM, CLS, Executive Vice President, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. The symposium will provide key insights into how clinical laboratories can help their healthcare institutions survive tougher regulatory oversight aimed at quality outcomes and cost transparency via laboratory models that give focus to clinical, operational and financial foci.  Eight presentations will be featured over the course of two days, and the symposium will take place at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s) are provided for both educational offerings.  To register for the 2013 Fall Webinar Series, visit https://www.sysmex.com/us/en/Education/Webinars/Pages/Webinars.aspx.

Educational Offering Importance

As the nation's leaders continue their endeavors to reshape healthcare via new models of efficiency such as ACOs, clinical-laboratory instrument manufacturers must ask the question: "How is the clinical laboratory going to evolve over the years to come, and what can we do to shape and support that development?"  Sysmex America helps clinical laboratory professionals better understand key management issues faced by hospital administrations today, including:

  • Declining reimbursement from Medicare/Medicaid and managed care programs, indigent care shortfalls and their impact on patient care delivery.
  • The need to trim operational costs, while maintaining the quality of patient care that meets or exceeds standards.
  • Understanding the contributions of the clinical laboratory to quality patient care, overall care path efficiencies and financial returns in today's healthcare landscape.

"More than ever before, healthcare providers must balance the need to provide quality patient care with the need to deliver that care as efficient and cost effectively as possible," said Ralph Taylor, Executive Vice President Marketing, Sysmex America, Inc. "These needs are not going to change, so we consider it our responsibility as a leading instrument manufacturer to provide meaningful service and educational offerings that squarely address those challenges. These Sysmex offerings stand out competitively and remain unique in the industry."
