Date:6/21/2013

CHICAGO, June 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors, wounded veterans and healthcare professionals are expected to attend Abilities Expo on June 28-30, 2013 at Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center. Admission is free and show hours will be Friday 11 am to 5 pm, Saturday 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.

This year, the annual Chicago Abilities Expo will feature an impressive line-up of exhibits, celebrities, workshops, events and activities to appeal to people of all ages with the full spectrum of disabilities—including physical, learning, developmental and sensory disabilities.

"It's not just that we provide a forum that showcases essential technology to bridge the gap between ability and disability," said David Korse, president and CEO of Abilities Expo. "The Expo is always new and exciting with a host of all-inclusive, adaptive activities."

Complimentary loaner scooters, wheelchair repair and a power chair charging station will also be available during show hours.

"The Expo provides the community of people with disabilities access to life-enhancing products, education, resources and fun," said Korse. "We can't wait to open people's eyes to all the things they can do."

The Latest Products and Services
Attendees will experience cutting-edge products and services for people with a wide range of disabilities. They will find mobility products, devices for people with developmental disabilities, medical equipment, home accessories, essential services, low-cost daily living aids, products for people with sensory impairments and much more.

Relevant Workshops
A series of compelling workshops which address pressing disability issues will be offered free-of-charge to all attendees. Sessions will focus on travel, emergency preparedness, dating, thriving as a parent of a unique child, home accessibility, finding the correct mobility device and that is just for starters.

Sports, Instruction, Dancing and More!
Abilities Expo does not merely inform, it engages and it entertains. Attendees of all levels of ability learn the latest hip hop dance moves and play a host of adaptive sports like rowing, tennis, power soccer, quad rugby, basketball and golf. And the kids will love the face painting and special adaptive art activities especially created to accommodate all levels of ability.

Meet the Animals
Animals have become an intrinsic part of the community of people with disabilities. Some are essential to the healing process, while others help their human partners become more independent. Expo-goers will enjoy assistance dog demos, and learn how horses (full-sized and minis) can help people with disabilities. Actual horses will be on site.

Celebrity Encounters
On June 28, attendees will get a sneak peek of an episode from Season 2 of Push Girls, Sundance Channel's boundary-breaking docu-series that traces the lives of four dynamic women in Hollywood who happen to be in wheelchairs. They will also get to meet Chelsie Hill, one of its co-stars.

Rupert Issacson, co-founder of Horse Boy World and author of The Horse Boy, will share the techniques he has developed to improve verbal communication with autistic children. This Horse Boy Method can be executed both with and without the use of horses.
