State Exchanges And Other Post-ACA Implementation Hinder 2014 Planning For Pharma
Date:7/22/2013

BURLINGTON, Mass., July 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Decision Resources Group, the premier provider of healthcare analysis and data globally, uses proprietary data and expert insight to anticipate the impact of healthcare reform on a market level. As millions of previously uninsured people prepare to enroll in health insurance plans and gain access to pharmacy benefits, companies across the country are searching for clarity as they move through annual planning. The assumptions that go into annual strategy and planning processes will need to reflect the changing marketplace—and as implications of the Affordable Care Act will continue to take shape in the coming weeks and months, companies will need to forecast in the face of unprecedented uncertainty.

Brand and product launch planning, as well as regional and national sales strategy, will evolve to incorporate new metrics and resource allocation to align with the new reality—2014 plans should include a different level of resources, skills, tools and knowledge needed to succeed in a complex environment. John Jaeger, Vice President at Decision Resources Group, assesses the situation: "Planning for the exchanges isn't a 'one size fits all' proposition, especially given the variability in benefit design structures and metallic coverage. Brand and account teams need to understand the essential benefit coverage within each state and build strategy from the ground up in order to maximize regional opportunity."

Decision Resources Group's upcoming webinar, entitled "The Shadow Looms Larger: Building Exchanges into 2014 Planning" walks through the implications of post-ACA implementation on annual strategic planning, with a special focus on State Exchanges. The webinar leverages Decision Resources Group's ongoing "Sift Through The Noise" campaign to curate the most impactful data, analysis and insights on Healthcare Reform. This webinar is open to Pharmaceutical executives.

In two months the exchanges will start enrolling members, and everyone has a steep learning curve—it's all new," explains Sheri Sellmeyer, Vice President at Decision Resources Group. "But for those who get a handle on the new marketplace early, there is an opportunity to position their organizations to achieve some early wins with the exchanges."
