Spokane Connection with Social Security Administration Goes Live
Date:10/27/2011

SPOKANE, Wash., Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Inland Northwest Health Services (INHS), one of the nation's most recognized health information networks, in collaboration with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI), announced that it is enabling the secure exchange of electronic health information with the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) as part of the Electronic Disability Benefits Eligibility Determination pilot project. The data is being connected through the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange (Exchange).

The Spokane region was selected as one of 11 communities in the nation to participate in the SSA project. In collaboration with local hospitals, physician clinics and other project partners, INHS developed an automated process for SSA team members to access secure clinical data to verify disability claims. Previously done on paper, this automated, electronic validation process should significantly reduce the time it takes SSA to obtain medical records and complete a disability claim.

"In collaboration with health care providers in our community and our government and technology partners, INHS continues to develop electronic solutions that automate processes, increase efficiencies and create opportunities for better patient outcomes and customer satisfaction," said Tom Fritz, CEO of INHS. "We are honored to be part of the Social Security Administration's pilot project and look forward to future initiatives that focus on an improved health information delivery system for our community members."
