Date:1/23/2012

WELLINGTON, Fla., Jan. 23, 2012  /PRNewswire/ -- South Florida Radiation Oncology, LLC (SFRO) (www.sfrollc.com) is pleased to announce its agreement with Mevion Medical Systems to purchase the MEVION S250 proton therapy system, (www.mevion.com). SFRO plans to develop the first proton therapy treatment center in West Palm Beach. The first proton therapy system installation is targeted to begin in 2013.

South Florida Radiation Oncology is a group of leading radiation oncology treatment centers in Florida committed to providing the latest in cancer treatment for its patients. (www.sfrollc.com)

The MEVION S250 System will become the latest tool in SFRO's cancer fighting arsenal. Compared to conventional radiation treatments, protons deliver a precisely targeted dose, decreasing the amount of dose to healthy tissue and potentially lowering side effects typically associated with radiation treatments.

According to Dr. Kishore Dass, founding partner of SFRO, "we have  committed ourselves to providing the latest and most cutting edge technology to our south Florida patient communities over the years. Now, with proton therapy, it is the most advanced and complex cancer fighting technology, and we are extremely proud that we are fulfilling our commitment to cancer patients in South Florida." Additionally, Dr. Ben Han, also a founding partner of SFRO, states, "we are very excited to add the MEVION S250 proton therapy system to our technologies, which will allow us to offer a full array of the latest cutting edge radiation therapy treatments to South Florida patients without the need for our patients to experience expensive travel to other institutions." Proton Therapy
With nine facilities currently operational in the U.S., proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation treatment based on delivering a focused beam of protons to precisely treat a broad variety of tumors and cancers. The intrinsic accuracy of protons makes this therapy extremely valuable for the treatment of tumors immediately adjacent to critical structures.

About Mevion
The MEVION S250 proton therapy system represents the latest innovation in proton therapy, developed to reduce the size, cost and complexity challenges that have traditionally been associated with this important therapy. The Mevion system is powered by a TriNiobium Core™, which significantly reduces facility size compared with traditional proton therapy centers.
