Sigma-Aldrich Launches Novel Search Engine for Peer-Reviewed Literature, Biological Pathway Data and Technology Queries
Date:5/13/2013

ST. LOUIS, May 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (Nasdaq: SIAL) today announced the launch of a novel scientific search engine designed to give researchers easier access to peer-reviewed articles and abstract information on the Company's website, sigma-aldrich.com.  The new search engine allows scientists to immediately read the full text of millions of peer-reviewed papers without extra clicks or logins, discover applications for specific Sigma-Aldrich products in peer-reviewed literature, and provides free access to the Ingenuity gene and biological pathway database.

"We understand the value of validated products and data for use in research," said Amanda Halford , Vice President, Academic Research, Sigma-Aldrich.  "Whether seeking inspiration, investigating  how other scientists or laboratories performed experiments, validating the performance or utility of a product or finding supporting papers for experiments, these enhancements streamline the scientific search process and can help the research community find better information."

The access to full-text papers is powered by technology from Pubget, a solutions provider focused on expediting the acquisition and analysis of content.  Searches can be initiated from the main search bar on the Sigma-Aldrich website.

"Pubget serves millions of researchers across hundreds of institutions, and as such we have seen a lot of information retrieval implementations. It's clear that by combining papers, products and technical data, researchers will quickly recognize the time savings," said Ryan Jones , Pubget Co-Founder. "The instant full-text display, coupled with the methods and gene data in this search tool, will allow scientists to spend less time searching and more time doing research."

The biological search is powered by the Ingenuity Systems® Platform using Target Explorer web services. Target Explorer furnishes unique biological content that is up-to-date, comprehensive and relevant to searches conducted by scientists through the Sigma-Aldrich website.

"Building on five years of collaboration with Sigma-Aldrich, we are delighted to deliver innovative ways for users of the Sigma-Aldrich website to gain biological insights," said Tuan Nguyen , Vice President, Partner and Professional Services at Ingenuity Systems. "The collaboration will help biologists make more incisive decisions, regardless of whether they are reading full text articles, exploring biological interactions or making product selections."
