Sexual Health Care Option For Post-Hysterectomy Patients
Date:7/24/2012

NEW YORK, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A hysterectomy, the removal of a women's uterus, is the second most common surgery for women in the United States. Hysterectomies are performed for various reasons including cancer, fibroids, endometriosis, prolapse of the uterus, chronic pelvic pain or abnormal vaginal bleeding. Although incredibly common, hysterectomies are typically only performed when no alternative option remains.

When a woman undergoes a hysterectomy and her ovaries are removed, menopause will begin immediately following the surgery. This sudden change in hormone levels often brings hot flashes, night sweats, pain during intercourse, increased anxiety or irritability, and the need to urinate more often.  An often undiscussed symptom is vaginal dryness and the resulting sexual dysfunction associated.

When the ovaries are removed during a hysterectomy there is no way for the body to produce the estrogen needed for natural lubrication. The dryness that results is a sign of vaginal atrophy, or the thinning and inflammation of the vaginal walls due to a decrease in estrogen. Without its natural moisture, vulvar skin can become dry, sensitive, thin and fragile, resulting in symptoms such as itching, burning and painful intercourse.

To help alleviate the discomfort associated with vulvar dryness and the thinning of vulvar skin commonly caused by hysterectomy and menopause, NeoGyn Vulvar Soothing Cream offers a non-medicated, estrogen-free cosmetic cream formulated with Cutaneous Lysate. Although there are plenty of personal lubricants and moisturizers on the market to combat vaginal dryness, NeoGyn offers more than simple hydration. NeoGyn helps restore vulvar comfort and as a result may help women overcome the sexual dysfunction hysterectomy may cause.
