Dr. Grossman brings a strong history and knowledge of women's health and the medical device industry to lead Sense4Baby, Inc.'s mission of advancing maternal and neonatal access to health care. Most recently, Dr. Grossman was a medical director at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company, where she supported one of the surgical instrument franchises.  Dr. Grossman trained as an obstetrician/gynecologist at Pennsylvania Hospital.

"Dr. Grossman's medical and professional experience will help guide Sense4Baby, Inc.'s clinical and commercial success," said Nicholas Valeriani , chairman of the board of Sense4Baby, Inc. and chief executive officer of the West Health Institute.  "Sense4Baby, Inc. demonstrates how West Health's family of entities can work together to help lower the cost of health care. The company licensed a technology invented at the Institute for the public good, is housed at the West Health Incubator and received capital from the Investment Fund with the ultimate goal of bringing a new, cost-lowering and patient-centered technology to market."

"High-risk pregnancies put a tremendous strain on both health care systems and families," said Dr. Grossman. "The potential for remote monitoring with the Sense4Baby™ system is the first step toward technology that could lower costs and improve health care for both mothers and infants."

In the past ten years, Dr. Grossman served in numerous positions at many startup medical device companies. Dr. Grossman was also the founder, president and member of the board of directors at Gynesonics, an early stage medical device company focused on minimally invasive solutions for women's health, where she raised more than $20 million in venture capital financing and invented and helped develop the first intrauterine, ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation device for fibroid tumors.

Dr. Grossman holds numerous patents and has published several peer-reviewed articles. She earned her M.D. at Thomas Jefferson University and graduated with honors from Brandeis University. She also performed research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, one of the teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Grossman currently serves on the board of advocates for Americans for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), where she focuses on education and fundraising for underserved women and children. Dr. Grossman also serves on the board of directors of Medicines 360, a nonprofit pharmaceutical company that addresses unmet needs of women by developing innovative, affordable and sustainable medical solutions.

Designed from the ground up at the West Health Institute (watch video), the Sense4Baby system is an innovative, proprietary, portable wireless maternal/fetal monitor and uterine contraction monitor device that uses custom sensors, software and hardware connected to a cellular network to address high risk pregnancies. The Sense4Baby system is pending marketing clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

In September 2012, Sense4Baby, Inc., one of the initial licensees of technology developed by the West Health Institute, became the first resident of the West Health Incubator after receiving a funding commitment from the West Health Investment Fund, a prerequisite of residency.

Financial returns from the West Health Investment Fund will sustain the mission of West Health's philanthropic endeavors to discover and develop innovative patient-centered solutions to lower the cost of health care delivery.
