Sage Products Joins APIC Strategic Partner Program

CARY, Ill., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sage Products is joining the Strategic Partner program of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).

Sage is a global manufacturer focused on prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), including ventilator-associated pneumonia and surgical site infections. Sage is supporting APIC because of its strong belief in the organization's mission.

"We're extremely proud to be an APIC strategic partner," said Sage President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Brown. "Since 1971, Sage has shared APIC's mission to create a safer world through infection prevention, and we remain dedicated to supporting professional development of infection preventionists and their expanding role in today's healthcare environment."

APIC Strategic Partnership is a formal, ongoing relationship between APIC and healthcare companies united in the common goal of reducing the risk of infection. The APIC Strategic Partner program supports the work of APIC to advance its infection prevention mission, elevate the role of the infection preventionist (IP), and increase the number of members who obtain board certification in infection prevention and control (CIC®). Through the support of APIC strategic partners such as Sage, APIC will provide educational scholarships to IPs who are seeking certification.

"APIC strategic partners play an important role in supporting many of the programs and services that make APIC membership so valuable. We are happy to welcome Sage as our 20th partner in this program," said Katrina Crist, APIC CEO. "By working together, we can accelerate progress toward the elimination of HAIs."

APIC is the leading professional association for infection preventionists with more than 14,000 members.

Robert Garcia, BS, MT(ASCP), CIC, Senior Instructional Support Specialist, Healthcare Epidemiology, Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook, NY, has witnessed the evolving role of infection preventionists during his 30 years as an APIC member.

"I have seen the role of infection preventionists evolve from primarily a surveillance function to facilitating the education of the entire hospital staff from healthcare executives to the bedside clinician with the goal of eliminating HAIs. The best way to accomplish this goal is through continuing education. Sage's involvement and support of this program will help APIC advance the professional development of IPs," he said.

Sage offers a range of educational resources for infection preventionists, including CE and non-CE online education as well as other educational support. Sage also offers a unique CustomerOne program, which helps track surveillance to protocols to help facilities achieve better outcomes. In addition, Sage representatives will contact their local APIC chapters to offer in-person speaking engagements from key opinion leaders in infection prevention.

"We've developed an extensive library of valuable educational opportunities, and we're excited to be able to share it with infection preventionists to help advance their profession," Brown said.

Sage's market-leading prevention products are clinically proven to help prevent healthcare-associated pneumonias, surgical site infections and other HAIs. Products include Q•Care® Oral Cleansing and Suctioning Systems, Sage® 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate Cloths for patient preoperative skin preparation and Comfort Bath® prepackaged bathing, which replaces bath basins that are proven to harbor multi-drug resistant organisms.
