Safe in Common to Exhibit at 61st Annual National Student Nurses' Association Conference

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Safe in Common, a non-profit organization of healthcare safety advocates, today announced it will exhibit at the National Student Nurses' Association's Annual Convention, which will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC, from April 3-7. During the conference, Safe in Common will exhibit at booth #214.

The Organization seeks to unify and educate people about the risks of needlestick- and sharps-related injuries and will participate in the conference as part of its ongoing efforts to spark innovation, awareness and change across the healthcare spectrum.

Safe in Common Chairperson Dr. Mary Foley , the first NSNA President to be elected President of the American Nurses Association, will attend  the conference to meet with student nurses and exhibitors in support of this year's theme: "HEALTHY Campaign: Healing, Enlightening And Loving The Healthy You."

"At Safe in Common we are re-energized by the opportunity to work with student nurses through the National Student Nurses' Association. Just like teen drivers are most vulnerable to danger on the roads, healthcare workers who are early in their careers face the greatest risk of occupational injury," said Dr. Mary Foley , Chairperson of Safe in Common.

"In an era in which new phones and computing technology are introduced quarterly, Safe in Common believes it is unacceptable for sharps safety technology to languish unchanged for a generation. I am lucky to be in a position to support the next generation of nursing professionals by encouraging them to advocate for their own safety in the healthcare workplace. Every needlestick injury is preventable with the right equipment, the right procedures and the right culture, which is why encouraging future nursing leaders to unify around the goal of demanding the safest sharps devices is an important part of our mission at Safe in Common."

More than 3,500 nurses are expected to attend this year's NSNA Convention in Charlotte. During the conference, Safe in Common will engage with healthcare personnel to listen to their concerns, raise their hopes and unite them behind the creation of a workplace environment that is free from the risk of needlestick injuries.
