Roseman University Dental Medicine Students Provide Free Back to School Dental Screenings & Cleanings
Date:8/9/2019

WHAT:

Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) Students from the Roseman University’s College of Dental Medicine in South Jordan, Utah are providing free dental screenings and cleanings for all children and teens entering grades K-12 during the fifth annual Back to School Brush-Up™ event. Children and teens who come in for a screening and cleaning will also get a voucher to return to Roseman Dental, the clinical practice of Roseman University College of Dental Medicine, for a free comprehensive exam, free x-rays, and up to $50 in additional care. Thank you to our sponsors Intermountain Healthcare, KKOS Lawyers and Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors.

WHY:

  • Dental pain is the leading cause of school absence in the U.S.
  • Tooth pain and other oral health problems account for about 51 million hours of missed school every year
  • It is estimated that as many as 17 million children suffer from untreated tooth decay, making it the single most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S.
  • Tooth decay often leads to cavities and gum disease. When left untreated, these conditions cause pain that makes it difficult for children to focus and learn
  • Decay and untreated cavities can also lead to tooth loss, which results in poor self-esteem and problems learning to speak and form words properly
  • Regular dental visits and basic education about proper oral healthcare can make a big difference in children’s oral health
