GARNERVILLE, N.Y., April 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- New York eye doctors, Rockland Eye Physicians and Surgeons, one of the New York Metropolitan area's leading ophthalmology providers, announces the use of Alcon's cutting edge AcrySof IQ ReSTOR IOL available to patients suffering from cataracts. The lens is different from other cataract treatments in that it allows the patient to see properly at all ranges from near-to-far, without the use of bifocals or trifocals in many situations. Drs. Glen Weiss and Robert Chen, both highly respected for their surgical expertise are excited about the announcement: "The presence of the ReSTOR implant in our line of New York eye care services means that we can offer a solution for our cataract patients who do not want to wear multi-focal glasses. Dr. Chen outlines the specifics of how the lens adjusts a patient's vision at different viewing ranges, stating, "The center of the lens features several concentric rings, each having a different level of vision correction. This allows the lens to simulate the process of 'pseudo' accommodation, which is how the human eye naturally focuses to achieve clarity at different distances." Many patients lose the ability to accommodate as they get older, a condition called presbyopia.
