ScriptPro automation products now have the ability to print QR (Quick Response) barcodes on a pharmacy's prescription label to allow a patient to more easily manage refills and communicate with the pharmacy.

The QR barcode from a ScriptPro system is printed directly on the prescription label rather than the prescription paperwork, in case the patient misplaces or throws away the paperwork received when the prescription is dispensed.

The use of QR barcodes aids the lines of communication between the patient and the pharmacy. The prescription specific QR barcode on the prescription label may be scanned using a smartphone and the refill process is initiated. The pharmacy can also direct the customer to a website page providing additional information.

Patients might be able to access other pharmacy services through the QR barcode, such as:

  • Refill prescriptions on the go
  • Review details about the prescription
  • Set up reminders for when a prescription is due for refill or ready for pick-up
  • Choose how to receive reminders, text message or email
  • Find weekly specials or coupons

The QR barcode provides new opportunities for pharmacies to communicate and interact with their customers and increase pharmaceutical care to patients.
