Date:10/7/2010

ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Prime Therapeutics (Prime) announces that it has hired Peter Wickersham as Senior Vice President - Cost of Care.

Wickersham will manage Prime's Clinical and Pharmacy Trade Relations teams and lead Prime's efforts to integrate medical and pharmacy. In this role, he will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of clinical and contracting to deliver breakthrough results for Prime and its clients.

"Keeping cost of care affordable for employers and members is key to our ability to deliver outstanding service for our clients," says Eric Elliott, President and CEO, Prime. "With the integration of medical and pharmacy at the center of our value proposition, I believe it is essential that we have an executive leader specifically focused on guiding our efforts around cost of care."

Wickersham brings a wealth of experience in many aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. Most recently he served as Vice President of Operations at CIGNA Pharmacy Management, where he oversaw all implementation and operational aspects of CIGNA's commercial and Medicare business. Previous roles included Principal consultant in Mercer's pharmacy practice working with a variety of employers and public clients, and Vice President of Manufacturer Relations and Product Development for Aetna, Inc., where he successfully negotiated contractual agreements with a number of pharmaceutical manufacturers and drug wholesalers.

While at Merck & Co., in addition to negotiating contractual agreements with a number of HMOs and PBMs, Wickersham also led numerous quantitative analysis projects targeting managed care segments and was a key contributor to the development of various information systems projects that supported Merck's clinical sciences and product development. Wickersham also holds masters degrees in applied statistics, nuclear science and engineering, as well as management.

"Peter's education and experience in pharmacy contract negotiations, statistical analysis, information technology and clinical research will be invaluable as we work to use smart pharmacy benefit management to positively impact members' health and reduce total health care costs," says Elliott.
