President Clinton Highlights MWW Group at the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative for its 'Stop Neglected Tropical Disease' Campaign

Campaign "Call to Action"

The STOP NTDs "viral campaign" centers on a compelling "call to action" involving the solicitation of "signatures" on an online petition asking the U.S. Congress to designate an NTD Day in 2008 and increase funding for NTD control and research. Collected signatures will be used for advocacy on Capitol Hill and in global advocacy efforts to encourage other developed nations to follow Congress' lead. The petition is housed on the new STOPNTDs.org website (http://www.stopntds.org), as is a video featuring campaign endorsements by: Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee; Jeffrey Sachs, Ph.D., Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University and Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General; actors Jackie Chan and Alyssa Milano; and Mr. Mutombo, among others. The website also offers donation opportunities for individuals, organizations and corporations, ranging from $25 to protect 50 people to $1,500 to protect a village of 3,000 residents to "adopt a country" options. A multi-tiered media relations initiative supports the campaign, building on the success of MWW Group's first-year publicity efforts.

"The STOP NTDs campaign is a huge commitment," said President Clinton. "In 1985, there were 5.2 million cases of leprosy in the world. Today, because of efforts against that disease, the number is down to 220,000. We can have the same exact impact on all of the diseases that this effort will attack. I am profoundly grateful to all of them."
