Phase 3 Results for Alogliptin Demonstrated Significant Blood Sugar Reductions in Monotherapy and Four Add-on Therapy Studies

In type 2 diabetes, GLP-1 levels are decreased and the insulinotropic response to GIP is reduced, resulting in the incretin defect, which contributes to insulin deficiency and high blood sugar. Alogliptin has displayed a weight-neutral profile along with a risk of low blood sugar similar to placebo due to DPP-4 inhibitors' glucose-dependent mechanism of action.
