PRA Expert's Pulmonary Function Textbook Reissued

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PRA, a leading Clinical Research Organization, announces that the third edition of respiratory care expert Jack Wanger's book, Pulmonary Function Testing: A Practical Approach, has recently been published by Jones & Bartlett Learning in Sudbury, MA.

Mr. Wanger, Senior Clinical Research Scientist in PRA's Therapeutic Expertise group, wrote the textbook for both respiratory care students and practitioners and devotes each chapter to a separate pulmonary function test.  The topics explored in the book include spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity and blood gases, according to Mr. Wanger.

The book's first edition was released in 1992, and the second in 1996. This new edition offers readers new and expanded chapters on testing techniques and guidelines from the American Thoracic Society, the American Association for Respiratory Care, and the European Respiratory Society.

"Having experts like Jack Wanger, whose expertise is demonstrated by the publication of the Third Edition, continues to position PRA as an industry leader in the field of therapeutic expertise and as the industry leader in the area of respiratory clinical development," said Dr. Michael Kirchengast, PRA's Vice President of Scientific Affairs.

Mr. Wanger has specialized in respiratory therapeutics, pulmonary function testing and pulmonary physiology for more than 40 years. Since joining PRA in 1997, he has been involved in client consulting, protocol development, pulmonary function testing quality assurance, and preparation of clinical study reports and manuscripts. Mr. Wanger has co-authored various society guidelines as a committee member of the American Thoracic Society and American Association for Respiratory Care.  He has received numerous awards honoring and recognizing his commitment, expertise, and contribution to the profession of respiratory care.

PRA's Therapeutic Expertise group provides scientific and medical expertise for clinical development worldwide. The group is comprised of board-certified physicians and industry experts, focusing on a wide variety of therapeutic areas including respiratory conditions and diseases.
