Only the Breast Announces Innovative Milk Banking Program and Partnership
Date:10/23/2013

RENO, Nev., Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Only The Breast (OTB)   is founded on the premise that donors have a key role to play in helping solve the breast milk shortage.  As part of OTB's effort to support access to safe and responsibly sourced donor milk, we have made the decision to refocus OTB activities.

OTB is working hard to develop milk bank partnerships that empower donating women and their families, put into place robust donor screening programs, and embrace professional milk processing measures. We feel that this decision will better enable OTB to continue its core mission as advocates for both donating mothers and babies in need.

As a result of this decision we will be phasing out our breast milk classified ads service and will completely remove them once we can guarantee a smooth transition. This decision will impact all OTB activities related to informal milk sharing.

While this decision will come as a disappointment to some, OTB feels compelled to act as we have become increasingly concerned about the need for greater focus on the safety and interests of donating mothers, as well as the ongoing shortage of high quality donor milk for babies in need. We are not willing to accept that the current breast milk shortage is inevitable. The primary reason donors come to OTB is so they can help babies while receiving fair compensation for their milk. OTB has thousands of donors and millions of ounces flowing through it annually and we feel our decision will ultimately help address this situation.

Only the Breast is pleased to announce the Milk For Babies Reimbursement Program which will provide life-saving breast milk for use in hospitals and clinical settings and give donors the assurance that they will receive fair compensation. Donors will be fully screened, tested and instructed on safe handling methods and all milk will be professionally processed.

OTB is pleased to announce a promising partnership with Medolac Laboratories that will make it possible for us to screen potential donors and process donor milk collected through the Milk For Babies program. Glenn Snow, Co-Founder of Only the Breast stated, "We are extremely pleased with this partnership, which reflects our commitment to improve the safety of donor milk while improving access to babies in need."

Doug Hawkins, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Medolac Laboratories stated, "We are pleased that OnlyTheBreast.com has made the decision to partner with us as we are passionate about donor and infant safety.  This decision will help advance our common interest in upholding the principles of ethical sourcing and build the trust and confidence necessary to secure sustainable and fair milk banking."
