About Merkel Cell Carcinoma

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), sometimes referred to as a neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin, arises from the uncontrolled growth of Merkel cells in the skin. It is a rare skin cancer with roughly 1,500 cases per year in the United States, making it about 40 times less common than melanoma. More significantly, it is three times more lethal, thus prompt aggressive treatment is warranted. The majority of Merkel cell carcinomas appear to be caused in part by a virus, Merkel cell polyomavirus. Because greater than 80% of patients with MCC carry the Merkel cell polyomavirus, it is believed that an immunotherapy which stimulates the immune system to recognize and kill the virus and cancer may be a beneficial therapy for this patient population.

About OncoSec's Merkel Cell Carcinoma Phase II Study (OMS-I110)

The University of Washington, in conjunction with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, is the leading site for OncoSec's Phase II study for the treatment Merkel cell carcinoma. In this study the Company's OMS ElectroImmunotherapy technology is being used to stimulate the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells.  A total of up to 15 patients with local and distant Merkel cell carcinoma will be enrolled in this Phase II, single-arm, open-label, multi-center study. The trial is designed to assess the clinical and biologic effects of increased local expression of IL-12 protein in the tumor microenvironment following treatment with OMS ElectroImmunotherapy. It is anticipated that marked local expression of IL-12 in the tumor will induce an immunologic response in the tumor microenvironment, which may result in clinical benefit for the patient. To date, several patients have been enrolled in this study, and preliminary data is expected to be released before the end of 2012.

About OncoSec Medical Inc.

OncoSec Medical Incorporated is a biopharmaceutical company developing its advanced-stage OMS ElectroOncology therapies to treat solid tumor cancers and metastatic disease. OMS ElectroOncology therapies address an unmet medical need and represent a potential solution, for less invasive and less expensive therapies that are able to minimize detrimental effects resulting from currently available cancer treatments such as surgery, systemic chemotherapy or immunotherapy and other treatment alternatives.  OncoSec's core technology is based upon its proprietary use of an electroporation platform, the OncoSec Medical System (OMS), to dramatically enhance the delivery and uptake of a locally delivered DNA-based immuno-cytokine (OMS ElectroImmunotherapy) or chemotherapeutic agents (OMS ElectroChemotherapy). Treatment of various solid cancers using these powerful and targeted anti-cancer agents has demonstrated selective destruction of cancerous cells while sparing healthy normal tissues during early and late stage clinical trials. OncoSec's clinical programs include three Phase II clinical trials for OMS ElectroImmunotherapy targeting lethal skin cancers. More information is available at www.oncosec.com.
