OBGYN.net Highlights the Most Important Research Expected in 2013

NORWALK, Conn., Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica US announces OBGYN.net spoke with leaders of seven obstetric and gynecologic societies about the most eagerly anticipated research and developments on the horizon in 2013. Developments cited include the results of the ELITE trial, which examines the effect of hormone therapy on heart health and brain function; the FDA's decision on two non-hormonal therapies for hot flashes; and evidence-based guidelines for the care of women with pregnancy complicated by hypertension and preeclampsia.

Additionally, James T. Breeden , MD, the president of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), America's largest ob/gyn society, reasserted the organization's commitment to family planning services in 2013.

Experts also commented on the most important developments of 2012, which included American Society for Reproductive Medicine's (ASRM) removal of the 'experimental' label from the procedure of oocyte cryopreservation, and discoveries into the complex genetic processes involved in ovarian cancer.

Surveyed societies include the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine (SMFM), North American Menopause Society (NAMS), Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), American Urogynecologic Society (AUS), and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
