New White Paper Offers Model for Measuring Financial Impact of Reducing Toileting-Related Falls in Healthcare Facilities
Date:3/22/2012

ORLANDO, Fla., March 21, 2012  /PRNewswire/ -- LiftSeat Corporation, a leading provider of powered toilet lifts for hospitals, long-term care facilities and home health agencies, introduced today a new white paper that details a return-on-investment (ROI) model for healthcare facilities seeking to determine the financial impact of using powered toilet lifts in support of their fall prevention or safe patient handling program. The white paper was introduced at the 12th Annual Safe Patient Handling Conference in Orlando.

The white paper, Identifying a Return on Investment (ROI) by Introducing the LiftSeat Toilet Transfer Solution into a Falls Prevention and/or Safe Patient Handling Program, was authored by Heather M. "Numerous studies demonstrate activities associated with toileting are a major cause of falls and injuries, ranging from 33 to 45.2 percent of all falls in medical-surgical units to between 37 and 50 percent of falls throughout in-patient care."

The white paper details how falls can lead to a 61 percent increase in an organization's costs for the care of an injured patient and add more than 12 days to the length of a hospital stay. Nurses and other caregivers also are at risk when assisting with toileting-related activities with injuries resulting in medical costs, lost time from work and potential light duty or staff replacement costs.

"LiftSeat commissioned Ms. Monaghan's white paper to contribute to the growing body of research on the true impact of toileting-related falls," says Greg Kilgore, president of LiftSeat. "Momentum is accelerating within the safe patient handling and fall prevention movements in part because of the growing awareness about falls and t
