New Supplement Based on Nobel Prize-Winning Research Boosts Nitric Oxide for Cardiovascular Health

CHICAGO, Feb. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Lifes2good today announced that its new Berkeley Life Heart Health supplement – formulated based on Nobel Prize-winning research that shows the pivotal role of nitric oxide in cardiovascular health – is now available at Vitamin Shoppe and GNC locations nationwide. The Berkeley Life Heart Health supplement contains key ingredients proven to support natural production of nitric oxide and comes with test strips that indicate nitric oxide levels in the body. Berkeley Life Heart Health is the first widely available supplement to deliver the benefit of nitric oxide production for cardiovascular health.

"Nitric oxide is one of the most important molecules in the human body and yet may be one of the least commonly understood," said renowned cardiologist Dr. James Rippe, founder and director of the Rippe Lifestyle Institute. "Maintaining a healthy level of nitric oxide has a profound effect on the cardiovascular system – helping to control blood pressure, improving oxygen flow throughout the body and reducing the risk of blockages and clots."

Berkeley Life Heart Health supplement, now available at retail locations nationwide, contains key ingredients proven to support the body's natural production of nitric oxide - an important molecule for cardiovascular health.

In 1998 a Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for discoveries concerning 'nitric oxide as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system.' Produced naturally by the body, nitric oxide promotes dilation of the arteries, keeping them elastic, so blood can move efficiently throughout our system. But, as people age, natural nitric oxide production declines, creating a greater risk of high blood pressure and life-changing diseases.

"Most people aren't aware how important nitric oxide is to our cardiovascular health and we don't regularly keep the proper diet or level of physical activity necessary to maintain a good level of nitric oxide, particularly as we age," said James Murphy, founder of Lifes2good (L2G), which distributes Berkeley Life. "Berkeley Life aims to educate people about the benefits of nitric oxide and to give them a convenient solution to boost the body's production of this critical molecule."

Scientific studies demonstrate that the key ingredients in Berkeley Life Heart Health stimulate nitric oxide production. Berkeley Life's signature NOx:BP Complex combines the same bio-actives as those found in nitrate rich plants, including leafy green vegetables. The formula includes beet root extract to aid nitrate level and pomegranate extract, which is a powerful antioxidant.

"In my experience as a physician, I've seen that compliance with special diets or exercise programs can be a significant barrier for people looking to improve their cardiovascular health," said Dr. Rippe, who has written several books on heart health including Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease for Dummies. "A convenient daily supplement with proven ingredients, like those in Berkeley Life Heart Health, can be a good solution for those who struggle to make lifestyle changes."

Berkeley Life Heart Health is the only supplement to come with test strips which allow the user to assess his or her nitric oxide level both before and after using the product. Each Berkeley Life supplement product comes with two Berkeley Test strips, which are also sold separately in packs of ten and fifty. To use the simple test strip, one simply adds saliva by touching the strip to the tongue and, in ten seconds, a color swatch will appear that indicates current nitric oxide levels. Users can interpret the reading by matching the swatch to the convenient guide on the box or by using the Berkeley Life mobile app, which will launch this month.

"Berkeley Test allows users to see that the Berkeley Life supplement is working to stimulate NO production," said Murphy. "Berkeley Test also can be used independently of the supplement to measure nitric oxide levels, which are influenced by diet, exercise and other factors."

To coincide with the product launch and American Heart Month in February, Berkeley Life is launching a national education effort, "KNOW", to alert consumers to the importance of nitric oxide – which is abbreviated NO – for cardiovascular health. The campaign includes advertising, media and influencer outreach and educational content from medical professionals. The Berkeley Life website,, provides more information on the supplement and the science of nitric oxide and how it can help combat heart disease.

Per the Centers for Disease Control, cardiovascular disease is the leading global cause of death, and poor heart health is a risk factor for other dangerous health conditions. Approximately 78 million adults – one in every three – in the United States have high blood pressure. About one in five are unaware of their condition.

Berkeley Life Heart Health supplement and Berkeley Test are distributed by L2G North America, Inc. a company with a portfolio of health and beauty brands and a 20-year record of bringing proven supplements to the U.S. market.

The Berkeley Life Heart Health supplement is expected to be on shelves at Walgreens and Rite Aid in June.
