New National Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Network to Revolutionize Ambulatory Surgery Center Access to Medications

DALLAS, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SurgicalMeds (, a new national network of certified sterile compounding pharmacies serving ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), surgical hospitals and other healthcare provider members, recently launched and is changing the way facilities receive their medications. SurgicalMeds provides its members with preferred access to high-quality compounded medications and many other benefits.

Once healthcare providers complete a service agreement with SurgicalMeds, they receive access to hard-to-find medications; precise portioning that reduces waste and cost; expedited delivery; easy reordering; updates on medication shortages; and even more valuable services.

"SurgicalMeds helps ensure healthcare facilities, their physicians and the patients under their care are not hindered by drug shortages," said Jeff Blankinship, President of SurgicalMeds. "Since SurgicalMeds is comprised of a select network of committed, experienced professionals, providers can be confident that the medications they receive meet the highest standards of quality and sterility."

SurgicalMeds is a closed association with licensure in all 50 states. To become a pharmacy member of SurgicalMeds, pharmacies are required to meet or exceed the highest standard of sterile compounding production, which is validated through accreditation by a recognized national organization.

SurgicalMeds pharmacies perform regular sterility tests on all compounds to ensure not only the products but also the processes meet all USP 797 standards, said Jack Munn, Founder and President of Dallas-based Guardian Pharmacy Services. Additionally, all pharmacies must have volume controls in place to ensure drug quality is maintained and not potentially compromised by increases in production.

"We've developed this network of pharmacies to provide the highest quality of sterile compounded medications and do so with integrity and consistency," Munn said. "That's consistency with shipping times; consistency and efficiency with the manner in which the product is delivered, whether by syringe or bag, for example; and consistency with the availability of drugs."
