Tests, die mecC-Stämme nicht erkennen,können  zu falsch negativen Ergebnissen führen.[vii] Der BD MAX™ StaphSR-Test detektiert auch  das mecA Gen, so dass Deletionsmutanten e sicher erkannt werden, denen dieses Gen fehlt und die mit anderen Methoden unter Umständen nicht erkannt werden können.
