Nebraska Stop-Sale System Achieves Significant Results In Battle Against Meth
Date:7/17/2012

LUTHERVILLE, Md., July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion – today lauded the latest qurterly results achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system in Nebraska.  Data released for 2012 by the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) shows electronic technology in the Cornhusker State for the first six months of 2012 blocked the sale of more than 7,000 boxes of medicine containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) preventing more than 18,000 grams from potentially being diverted by meth criminals.

"In just over six months since Nebraska's real-time, stop-sale technology became fully operational, the system has proven to be an undeniable success around the state." said Charles F. Cichon, executive director of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI).  "Much like a credit card transaction, NPLEx allows retailers to block unlawful attempted purchases right at the point of sale. Police officers can track this information in real time on mobile devices. By targeting criminals, NPLEx ensures responsible consumers will continue to have access to the safe and effective medicines they rely on for relief."
