ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The National Association of Specialty Pharmacy™ (NASP™ ) announced today that it has partnered with the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation to host the inaugural charity golf outing at the Strategic Business Exchange, October 14-16, in San Antonio
"Partnering with PAN allows us to host a charity event focused on raising funds in a variety of areas with the goal of improving patient care," Gary M. Cohen, BSPharm, RPh, NASP Founder and CEO, said. "PAN has significant experience in this area and will serve as a valuable partner to putting on a special event for our participants."
The PAN Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that offers help and hope to people with chronic or life-threatening illnesses for whom cost limits access to breakthrough medical treatments. Approximately 90 cents of every dollar donated to PAN goes directly to underinsured patients. Since 2004, PAN has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in assistance to patients in need, a testament to the Foundation's operational excellence, which ensures quick access to treatment and supports patients' continuity of care.
"The PAN Foundation is thrilled to be joining forces with NASP, whose mission is also focused on improving patient outcomes, to host an enjoyable and valuable event," said Patrick McKercher, Ph.D., president of the PAN Foundation. "Given our commitment to helping critically or chronically ill patients afford their specialty medications, we look forward to working closely with NASP, the association for the Specialty Pharmacy industry, a growing and exciting field."
NASP, founded in 2012, represents specialty pharmacy professionals in all practice settings and highlights the unique value its members bring to patients and the healthcare system by focusing on building collaboration among all industry associations to improve patient outcomes. Specialty pharmacy is the fastest growing segment in the industry today and NASP provides valuable benefits to members by creating a strong, unified voice for all stakeholders. Through the Specialty Pharmacy Education Center (SPEC), NASP will offer more than 300 hours of education specific to specialty pharmacy. SPEC will also provide education needed to earn and maintain professional certification through the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB).
