Total Disc Replacement implant represents newest alternative surgical

treatment Dr. Carl Giordano - based in Morristown - among first surgeons selected to

provide operation Dramatic reduction in post-surgery pain and stiffness; quicker recovery

MORRISTOWN, N.J., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading New Jersey orthopedic surgeon Dr. Carl Giordano, of Morristown-based Atlantic Spine Specialists, is helping pioneer a remarkable new treatment for damaged neck discs. The surgical procedure is known as Total Disc Replacement, and Dr. Giordano is one of the few doctors in the state trained and certified to provide it to patients.

Nationwide, the problem of injured or damaged neck discs impacts tens of thousands of Americans. In fact, it's been estimated that 51% of all adults experience neck and/or arm pain at some time.

To date, Dr. Giordano has conducted the Total Disc Replacement operation -- utilizing a process that incorporates the remarkable ProDisc-C implant -- on 10 patients, including West Paterson's Louis Graziano.

"Before my surgery, I had to be extremely careful because doing even simple things -- like playing with my kids -- could set off serious pain," Graziano explains. "After the operation -- in fact, just a few days into my recovery -- I was able to begin resuming a normal routine with little discomfort and no headaches. I'd recommend Total Disc Replacement to anyone who was a candidate for it."

In the past, patients with degenerated discs in their neck -- and for whom surgery was the most appropriate option -- likely faced having impacted vertebrae fused together. With the Total Disc Replacement option, patients retain greater flexibility, and experience far less post-operative pain.
