Mylan Awarded NABP-VAWD Accreditation for Its Primary North American Distribution Facility
Date:2/9/2010

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mylan Inc. (Nasdaq: MYL) today announced that its Greensboro, N.C., distribution facility has received Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors® (VAWD) accreditation from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP). The NABP established the VAWD program in 2004 to help protect the public from the threat of counterfeit drugs affecting the U.S. drug supply.

Mylan North America President Hal Korman stated: "This accreditation provides further reassurance to our valued customers that Mylan's products are of the highest quality and are safeguarded against counterfeit and fraud."

According to IMS Health data, one out of every 12 prescriptions dispensed in the U.S. – branded or generic – is a Mylan product, and most of these are distributed by the company's Greensboro facility.

The VAWD program aims to provide assurance that wholesale distribution facilities operate legitimately, are validly licensed in good standing, and are employing security and best practices for safely distributing prescription drugs from manufacturers to pharmacies and other institutions. Applicants for accreditation undergo an exhaustive criteria compliance review, licensure verification, a survey, background checks and screening through the NABP Clearinghouse.
